PhD candidate, Sociology, NSSR
Barbara Adams is a PhD candidate in sociology at The New School for Social Research completing a project that examines how artists are situated as agents in the social field. With a focus on social engagement and artistic research, the project looks at the kinds of knowledge and action art might initiate. Barbara teaches at Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts, and St. Joseph’s College. She coedited the book Design as Future-Making (2014) and contributed to the volume Experience Design (2014). While a fellow at the Graduate Institute for Design, Ethnography & Social Thought, she co-organized the exhibition and archive, Ethnography in the Expanded Field, along with a series of dialogues that brought designers, artists, and social researchers together to discuss their practices.
